Jaco Beach has quickly grown to become the largest and most visited coastal city in Costa Rica. Located only 1 hour and 15 minutes away from the capital city of San José, Jaco is one of the preferred destinations of Costa Ricans and foreigners alike, who are looking to enjoy the wonders of our country through our unique Jaco Costa Rica travel packages, that feature a relaxed beach lifestyle with all luxury facilities like excellent restaurants, shopping, nightlife, banks, clinics and much more.
In Jaco there is mainly two seasons: the dry season from December to April and the green season from May to November. We generally have nice warm temperatures all year round but experience rain in the green season months, so always pack light clothing like shorts, t-shirts, dresses and flip flops. During the green season the weather is usually sunny during the morning, with rain typically starting in the afternoon or at night, making it very refreshing. If you are planning Jaco Costa Rica vacations in the green season, book your tours and outdoor activities in the morning to avoid getting caught in wet weather.
Jaco offers a wide variety of restaurants. There are many of options available: from small typical “sodas” serving delicious Costa Rican dishes to restaurants offering Japanese, Italian, French, African and other international cuisine.
In Jaco people not only enjoy the wonders of Costa Rica during the day but also have fun at night! There is many bars, clubs and activities during the week.
20 minutes north of Jaco is the Carara National Park, recognized for its exuberant rainforest and visited by birdwatchers from all over the world. Carara is home to one of the largest populations of wild Scarlet Macaws in Costa Rica, which fly everyday to Jaco to spend the day.
Jaco lies between several mountains with hidden waterfalls you can explore. Take an ATV ride through our Jaco Costa Rica travel packages that passes through small villages where you will see the real Costa Rican way of life and delight yourself with amazing views of Jaco from up high. Visit the Bijagual waterfall, the tallest in the Central Pacific, and swim in the natural pools in middle of the rainforest.
Experience nature and simple solitude walking along the shoreline during low tide in Jaco’s rocky north and south ends, in these parts of the beach, where you might see a couple of Jaco locals fishing from a rock.
Visit Playa Hermosa and see how dozens of Leatherback Sea Turtles flock to the beach to lay their eggs and then make a strenuous journey back to the ocean. You can help the volunteers look for nests at night and rescue the eggs from the ground to rebury them at Hermosa National Wildlife Refuge, where the hatchlings are safely protected until their first plunge into the ocean. Only Jaco Costa Rica vacations can provide such exciting adventures!
If you like cooking some meals at Jaco Beach vacation rentals, we recommend you visit the Jaco Farmer’s Market, held every Friday next to the soccer field. Here you will find the freshest fruits, vegetables and homemade breads that are brought to Jaco from different areas of Costa Rica where they are produced. It is best to get to the Farmer’s Market in the morning so you get the freshest materials.
